Last Christmas, I received yet another lab curiosity from my crazy scientist husband. He gifted me an organoid he cultivated, resembling a kissing mouth with large lips. While I usually seek inspiration from natural forms, this was the first time my muse was something so tiny.
I decided to create a round vase and added large lips after trimming. I took some creative liberties, enlarging the gap between the lips for inserting flowers and plants. When it comes to flowers, the more, the merrier!

Adding my signature orange slip to the lips was a tricky experience. I’m not the greatest at achieving clean, sharp lines, so I utilized tape for precision. After bisque firing, I felt something was lacking, so I experimented a bit and ended up with polka dots, which resulted in the organoid vase resembling the Piranha Plant from the Super Mario Bros games! The '90s child in me was very happy with the result.
